Marine Biologists react to Dammed to Extinction

It’s always a thrill when you stumble upon other people talking about your work. Two marine biologists, who are in no way connected to our project, recently reviewed “Dammed To Extinction” on their weekly vlog. The conversation itself lasted almost as long as the film. Most of the discussion revolved around the issue itself rather than the filmmaking craft. It was interesting to see what they learned and what resonated for them, since both of them clearly know a lot more than the average viewer.

They connected with two of my favorite moments in the film. 1) Where a seemingly innocent question to a young London Fletcher acts as a turning point introducing the potential extinction of the Southern Resident Killer Whales . And 2) where fisherman Steve Pettit quickly dismisses the politicians claims of “record salmon runs”.

Thanks Marine Bio Movie Club!
