About the Process: Esperanza escapes her everyday life of harassment and bullying through her daydreams of being a dancer. Reality was shot with locked-off traditional angles. Dream scenes were shot handheld in a variety of speeds with dramatic lighting. As the film progresses, reality and the dream world start to merge and whether or not the final scene really happened is left for the audience to decide. The challenge was to mix different styles of camerawork and to use different styles of editing to take the viewer through dreams, reality, and the feeling in-between in a way that didn’t draw too much attention to the technical and felt coherent.
